Ahh, Eragon. One of my favorite books of all time. When I heard there was a movie coming out, I did a backflip and checked all the stats. Lets see....
cast: TBA
director: TBA
producer: TBA
and so on. I checked about every month until I got some solid information.
The movie is to be directed by Stefen Fangmeier, who was the visual effects supervisor for some great movies, like The Bourne Identity, Signs, and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. This is his first directing job, so it may be a risk.
The lucky man who will have the part of Eragon is 17-year-old Edward Speleers. It is his first production aside from school plays, so it is quite an honor to land what is said to be the role of the year. Rumor is Chris Paolini himself chose Speleers and most of the cast (despite the paragraph at shurtugal.com saying he had no involvement), and is supervising the production of the movie while writing the third and final installment in the Inheritance series.
The release of Eragon is slated for December 15, 2006. You can expect a full review done as soon as I return from the midnight premiere showing. Be on the lookout, cause if the movie is anything like the book, it will be excellent.
Now, there is a rumor saying that an Eragon video game will come out with the movie. Guess what. It's true! Vivendi Universal games announced the development of an Eragon game coming out at the same time as the movie. It will have 3 versions. First, a console and PC version that focuses on the storyline, with a combo- and magic-based combat system, complete with finishing moves, grapples, blocks, counters, dragon summoning, and dragon dogfights. That version will be released on the PC, XBox, XBox 360, PS2, and GameCube.
The second version, for the DS and GBA, is a turn-based strategy game with lots of spell-crafting and potion-making.
The final version, for the PSP, will focus on dragon flight and aerial combat.
Once again, look for an in-depth review in mid-December. Providing i buy or rent the game, which hopefully will happen.
